Why I Fly

Follow along with Alex as he discusses why he chose to get into aviation and how he decided to train with SkyBlue.

"I have always wanted to fly from as far back as I can remember, I just never thought I might actually get to do it. I remember seeing an air show when I was a kid and being completely awestruck by the sights and sounds of jets and planes flying acrobatics overhead. I was even captivated by flight simulator games from the late 90s and early 2000s which I started playing as early as 4 years old. Growing up and progressing through school my focus shifted to music because I followed in my brother’s footsteps and had some inherent aptitude for it. I do believe that some things happen for a reason, and I think that being a musician and being an airman are actually surprisingly similar and have some core skills that are related to each other, such as being extremely focused on what is happening around you, in this moment, and being proactive about aspects of each and every situation. My only regret is that it has taken me this long to take the dive and begin flight training. Witnessing others take discovery flights as young as 14 years old, I wish I had the same opportunity. What made me finally take the dive and immerse myself in the training was that I realized that I needed to find something new that would give me more fulfillment in life. Something that I could do at a high level of skill, something that the world needs, something I could build a career upon, and something that I would love doing. I have done a few things in life that had two or three of these aspects, but never all four. Now that I am flight training I know that I love it and I know that this is what I need to do. I decided to do my training with SkyBlue for multiple reasons, one being that I already knew my flight instructor Nicole from high school. However, even before I realized that she was an instructor here I had heard of the school and it was recommended to me that I train here over any other school in the Palm Beach area by my friends who are several professional aviators. For someone looking to start flight training but is not sure where to go or how much time they can commit to flight training, SkyBlue is the place to go."
